Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications Sunday Dare has hailed the president’s two-day state visit to Brazil, starting August 25, 2025, as a “game-changer” for Nigeria’s economic diversification through strategic partnerships with Latin America’s largest economy.

“This third visit is a state visit, and it moves Nigeria from being a dialogue partner to actively cutting the necessary deals that will open up investments and strengthen cooperation,” Dare stated in Brasilia, emphasizing the focus on securing bilateral agreements in agriculture, aviation, and trade.

Hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the visit builds on a 21-year diplomatic relationship initiated under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Dare highlighted Brazil’s expertise in mechanized agriculture, particularly its 238-million cattle herd, as a model for Nigeria’s livestock sector expansion. He also noted shared demographic and economic similarities, making Brazil a key partner for Nigeria’s renewable energy and agribusiness ambitions.

Unlike Tinubu’s earlier trips for G20 and BRICS summits, this visit prioritizes actionable deals to reduce Nigeria’s oil dependency.

The trip, part of a two-nation tour following Tinubu’s attendance at the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Japan, aims to transform historic ties into tangible investments. While the Presidency sees the visit as a step toward global economic integration, challenges like regulatory alignment and follow-through persist.
